DECIDING WHAT TO DO AS A CONNECT GROUP

FOLLOWING ALONG WITH SUNDAY TALKS

Send out a link so people can catch up if they’ve not heard here

Whoever is leading can prepare some simple questions:

  • What of the talk resonated with you and why?

  • How have we experienced this truth about Jesus in our own lives?

  • In what ways have we seen this in action?

  • What stops us from living this out?

CREATING COMMUNITY

MORE IDEAS….

EVERYONE BRING ONE

  • Everyone in the group is invited to bring their favourite Psalm, Hymn or worship song, verse or passage from the bible.  Each person is invited to share their favourite and talk about why

  • 2-minute testimonies

  • Everyone (who wants to) share a testimony, this could be how they came to faith or a way they have seen God show up in their life.

ENCOURAGEMENT OR PROPHECY PRACTICE

Take a piece of A4 paper for each person in the room with their name at the top. Everyone in the group writes a word of encouragement for that person, then fold the sheet over before passing the sheet on to the next person.  Repeat until every person has written something for everyone in the room.  A variation on this is to do the same exercise but ask God to speak prophetically for each person.

READING & STUDYING THE BIBLE

A simple idea is to pick a book of the bible and go through it together, chapter by chapter. Once you’ve decided on which book to look at then some resources that run alongside that could be good.

  • The Bible Project – www.bibleproject.com – search under book title. They do amazing short videos that explain each book.  You could watch that together at the beginning of the series and again at the end.

  • Tom Wright – ‘For Everyone’ books are also really helpful to get to grips with any individual book of the bible.

STUDYING A BOOK

The Big Church Read is an excellent resource. Go to the website and choose a book (you can search under theme) and there are small group resources that run alongside each chapter.  If you want to do this then usually the cost for the book is taken on by the individual but we can get the books in at a reduced price (or often Amazon is cheaper)

OTHER RESOURCES & DEVOTIONALS

  • LICC are great at equipping people for their every day lives, and have a particular focus on being fruitful for God wherever he has placed us. They have loads of video devotionals that you could watch together (or separately  in the week) and then discuss together and pray through: https://licc.org.uk/ourresources/

  • This a great resource for people wanting to go on a discipleship journey together, looking intentionally at how we grow to be more like Jesus

  • Practising the Way’ - John Marc Comer (Video Series)

  • https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/ (quite a few in our church have done this and found it really helpful)
